Dental Implant Treatment to replace missing teeth by dental implants

Dental implants replace missing teeth. A dental implant replaces the root of a missing tooth, and a dental implant crown is held in place by the dental implant that has fused to your natural living bone. It will be at your dental clinic, where your dentist will refer you to an oral surgeon or oral & maxillofacial surgeon for your dental implants. In coordination, your dental surgeon (general dentist) and oral & maxillofacial surgeon (specialist implant surgeon) will work together.

With your dentist, and at your dental clinic, you should expect to talk about teeth whitening (including laser teeth whitening), other dental crowns (including general restorative care, periodontal treatment, root canal treatment and dental veneers). The combination of general dental and specialist surgical treatment planning aims to maximize your functional and dental cosmetic needs and outcomes.

Many people ask what is a dental implant, or why is it has been suggested that dental implants are for me? Does dental insurance cover my dental implant costs, or what is the cost of a dental implant? What are my other options? What is a dental bridge, or a dental crown, or a denture, or a dental post, and how will they affect my health, my other teeth, or my smile? What is a dental implant procedure and what does a dental implant procedure involve? Will my dental implant take a long time, will my dental implant work, will my dental implant procedure be gentle, and will my dental implant appear cosmetic and natural? What other dental procedures will I need, and how do I coordinate my dental treatment needs?

Dental implants (or dental implant or dental implante), are designed to be the ultimate in dental restorative procedures to replace missing teeth, broken teeth, recently extracted teeth, or abscessed teeth. The dental surgery to place them is performed by highly trained specialist oral & maxillofacial surgeons (oral surgeons or faciomaxillary surgeons). The dental restorations that they support are call implant dental crowns, or implant retained dentures, or implant retained dental bridges. The restorative aspects are provided by a general dentist called an implant restorative dentist (dental surgeon) or a specialist dentist called a prosthodontist.

The cost of dental implants vary according to where, how, and who has placed your dental implant.

The implant material costs are common to all countries… meaning the actual cost of the implant titanium hardware produced by AstraTech implants , Nobel BioCare or Biomet ITI 3I, will be the same whether you are in New Zealand, or Singapore, or Peru.

A dental technician who is specialized in dental implant crown manufacture is a big cost variable. Generally your dental technician is more expensive the better and more experienced they are. They are also more expensive if they use certified, or genuine restorative components (usually a mixture of titanium, zirconia and porcelain) sourced and licensed directly from the implant manufacturer. It is very important that you choose dental technicians who are experts in dental crown manufacturing, and who offer only the highest and most reputable materials for their dental crown manufacturer. You should ask your implant restorative dentist who their implant dental technician is… and more importantly whether they are local, and not sourced from overseas countries. A general rule of thumb should be that they are local and use genuine manufacturer approved parts, that do not void the warranty on your original dental implant surgery.

Your specialist oral & maxillofacial surgeon who places the implant is the next cost variable. If you think that your specialist surgeon is more expensive than compared to somewhere else, make sure you are not comparing apples to oranges. Seek the most qualified oral & maxillofacial surgeon available, and then price compare amongst surgeons. If your dental surgeon (who has a general dentistry registration) has offered to do the dental implant surgery for you, and appears much cheaper than the oral & maxillofacial surgeon (who has specialty medical and/or dental registration)… then you have to ask? Who is going to do the best dental implant surgery for me, rather than who is going to do the cheapest dental implant surgery.

Other cost variables are costs associated with x-rays, consultations, and where you get treated. It is always going to be more expensive being treated under IV sedation or general anaesthesia. But sometimes costs of bone grafts, gum grafts and the like can be covered by medical insurance, when performed by oral & maxillofacial surgeons. So shop around. Ask about additional costs to your dental implant treatment, and not just the “cost of a dental implant.”

Your dental surgeon is the next cost component. The best dental implant dentist, is the one that has special training, and many years of experience in restoring dental implants with dental implant crowns and dental bridges and dentures. If you are tempted by the one stop shop, where both dental implant surgery and dental implant restorations are available by the one practitioner in the one location… then don’t be…

It seems tempting. But your best choice for dental implant treatment is going to always be with a working team… A team containing the best implant restorative dentist, the best implant specialist surgeon, the best implant dental technician, and the best (and usually the most expensive) dental implant manufacturer (at Profilo, we choose AstraTech implants as our preferred implant platform)…

But remember, dental implant costs only have a few variables. The variables are in materials and in dental technical work. If you are going to shop around, and get an overall cheaper cost, then the one stop shop will usually be able to offer the cheaper implant for you… but that does not mean that they are lessening the profit margin.

The most expensive part of dental implant surgery… is you…

If you want the best watch, that is going to last a century, and you can pass on to your kids… you buy Patek Philippe or Rolex, or Omega… But all watches tell the right time. So why not just buy a $100 copy from Thailand?

As a person, you are priceless… and every little bit of you, whether it is an eye, a finger, or an arm… is also priceless.

So how much is a tooth worth? How much does a dental implant cost? What is the cost of a beautiful smile?

If your dental implant treatment is performed and coordinated well amongst a team, or by a single individual… Or whether your dental implant is provided in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra, the Gold Coast or Newcastle (Australia)… or whether it is provided by a new graduate straight out of dental school, or a specialist registered oral & maxillofacial surgeon with 30 years of experience.

Your dental implant cost, is… priceless.
